Join us for an insider's look at New York's art scene including galleries, auction houses, museums and artist studios. Small groups explore current exhibitions at art venues in established art neighborhoods such as Chelsea, Soho, 57th Street and Madsion Avenue as well as "on the fringe" areas like Gowanus, DUMBO and Long Island City. Each tour is tailored to feature the best exhibitions in the given neighborhood.

Neighborhoods:

Chelsea
Over 250 galleries are clustered between 10th and 11th Avenues from 17th to 29th Strets explore. The Dia Center opened here in 1987 on West 22 Street and pioneer dealers Paula Cooper, Barbara Gladstone, Metro Pictures and other top tier galleries moved here from Soho.

Soho
Easy access and industrial buildings have made Soho a successful art district since the 1970's. Many galleries remain, and important institutions like the Drawing Center and Artist's Space still make this a destination: not to mention the great restaurant choices and a quick stop into the Apple Store or Prada.

Midtown
Realtors call this area Chelsea, but when you're closer to Port Authority than the Chelsea Market, it's midtown. Dieu Donne, Lower Eastside Printshop, Elizabeth Foundation and Exit Art contribute to this burgeoning area.

57th Street
Powerhouse galleries such as PaceWildenstein, Marlborough and Marion Goodman offer exhibitions by blue chip artists. With Christie's nearby it's easy to preview the upcoming offerings.

Madison Avenue
Among tiny boutiques and tony inhabitants the Upper Eastside offers more intimate viewing. Galleries like Richard Feigen and L&M , Craig Starr andJack Tilton, are all located in town houses which offer relaxed looking in elegant surroundings.

Brooklyn
Williamsburg, DUMBO, Red Hook and Gowanus; the newest art areas are in Brooklyn. Visit an non profit spaces like D.A.C., Proteus Gowanus and artist studios overlooking the Gowanus Canal or the East River and see a grittier side of the City. Directions are always provided and lunch spots recommended.
